The Seattle Kraken struggled in their inaugural season, posting the third lowest point total (60) in the NHL during their maiden voyage. To complicate matters they REALLY struggled against the Flames, dropping all four contests by a combined score of 17-9. Where Seattle really got hammered was within their own division. The Kraken finished an unthinkable 6-21-0 in the Pacific Division, struggling mightily against the other bottom dwellers like LA and San Jose and Vancouver. With that said, that kind of year is expected in your first season as an NHL club. Vegas was an exception to that rule and nothing but small improvements along the way during this current campaign should be expected. The Kraken will hopefully be a lightly more competitive team this season, but time will tell.

Both teams have done “well” in their start to the preseason. The Flames played an opening night split squad contest with the Canucks, winning both (4-0 and 3-2 OT), while Seattle took down the Edmonton Oilers (see, things are already looking up) by the score of 3-0.

Don’t take much out of this contest if you’re a Kraken fan as the Flames are basically sending the Wranglers team to Seattle to put in work. A very young squad with only Dillon Dube and Dan Vladar having solid NHL experience will try to send the Flames to 3-0-0 tonight. This is a good opportunity for players like Matthew Phillips, Connor Zary, Jakob Pelletier and Adam Ruzicka to really show the Flames coaches that they are knocking on the door and deserving of a chance to make the NHL roster for the 2022-23 season.

Puck drop is at 8 PM MT from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
