#21- Arsenii Sergeev

Position: Goaltender

Age: 19

2021-22 Team: Tri-City Storm (USHL)

Drafted 205th Overall in the 2021 Draft

2021 Ranking: #41 (+20)

If Sergeev is still a secret to anyone at this point, this may be the last season that he doesn’t start to become seriously considered as a top prospect for the Flames. After putting up some solid numbers for the NAHL’s Shreveport Mudbugs in 2020-21, the Flames made Sergeev their final selection at the 2021 NHL draft in the same round and style as someone who is going to be featured later on this list.

Along with fellow Russian Ilya Nikolayev, Sergeev made the move to the USHL’s Tri-City Storm for this past season. He dominated the league, being named the Goaltender of the Week and Month numerous times before being crowned Goaltender of the Year with 30 wins in 41 appearances. While his numbers for a high scoring junior league were very impressive, his performance for the University of Connecticut in the NCAA next season will be very telling as to how high he can elevate his game. UConn was home to another Russian prospect in Yan Kuznetsov for a few seasons.

Standing at 6-foot-3, there is no worry with Sergeev being the ideal size for a modern goaltender. With a pattern of shrewd selections in the 6th round of past drafts, the Flames have suddenly found a skill in taking chances on goaltenders in the final round.
