The Flames Look For A Better Performance Against Vancouver

Calgary Flames (0-1-0) – Vancouver Canucks (0-1-0)

Neither of these teams opened up their preseason’s with an effort that would make anyone proud. The Flames and Canucks gave up a combined 9 goals in their losses, but at least the ‘Nucks put the puck in the net (x3) against the Seattle Kraken Sunday night. The Flames meanwhile settled for a goose egg against an Edmonton team that barely dressed an NHL roster.

Last season saw these two play 10 times with the Flames dominating Vancouver in seven out of the 10 games. The Flames were 3-2-0 in Vancouver’s own building and averaged slightly over three goals per contest. Both teams missed the playoffs last year with Calgary finishing in 5th place in the North Division, while Vancouver occupied the basement with only 23 wins.

Both of these teams will clearly be looking to improve upon disappointing 2021 campaigns and sloppy starts to their preseason. The Flames were outshot 49-15 in their opener and didn’t find the back of the net. Vancouver had the chance to put the Seattle Kraken away, but blew a 2-0 lead with an atrocious second period, allowing the Kraken to score three times and eventually walk away with a 5-3 victory.
