The Calgary Flames started Friday morning off by announcing they have agreed to terms with defenceman Nikita Zadorov. The deal is for a single year with a 3.75 million AAV, coming just 500K over his qualifying offer. The deal is the third straight one-year pact Zadorov has signed, with the two previous coming with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2020-21, and Colorado Avalanche in 2019-20.

Zadorov, 26, was acquired on the opening day of free agency from the Blackhawks in exchange for a third round pick in 2022. With the trade occuring mere days before the salary arbitration filing period opening, Zadorov’s agent openly came out saying that his client’s filing was purely due to time constraint. Zadorov’s hearing was scheduled for August 26th.

The Flames now have 7.7 million dollars in cap space to sign RFA’s Dillon Dube, Juuso Valimaki, Connor Mackey, and Glenn Gawdin.
