2021 NHL Entry Draft Prospect Preview
Fabian Lysell (F)
Age: 18
Height: 5’10
Weight: 172 lbs
Hometown: Göteborg, SWE
Current Team: Luleå HF (SHL)
Fabian Lysell presents himself as an all around offensive weapon with the ability to start a rush, finish, feed and find creative ways to put the puck in the net. The 18 year old Swedish prospect played in 46 games last season between three teams, including Sweden’s U18 team, scoring 8 goals and collecting 17 assists. He would finish 13th overall in scoring during the 2021 IIHF U18 World’s with nine points.
Lysell has been fairly consistent since he started with Sweden’s U16 team back in 2016-17, with his best point totals coming with Hovås HC U16 in 2017, piling up 53 points (23G - 30A) in just 21 games. His following seasons saw his scoring touch continue to stay on track with 44, 39, 34 and 28 point campaigns as well.
Lysell has the ability to create with the puck on his stick, though the Flames may be slightly cautious due to his size. At 5’10 he’s one of the smaller prospects we’ve looked at that could be on the board when the Flames pick, but that hasn’t stopped Calgary before. Experts have Fabian Lysell ranked anywhere from being the 3rd best prospect to the 14th best in the draft.
