2021 NHL Entry Draft Prospect Preview

Carson Lambos (D)

Age: 18

Height: 6’1

Weight: 201 lbs

Hometown: Winnipeg, MB

Current Team: Winnipeg Ice (WHL)

Complete Stats

Remember when Calgary defencemen used to lead the rush and put the puck in the net? Well, Carson Lambos is a player that fits that description to a tee. The 18 year old product of Manitoba is a solid two way defenceman, with a penchant for putting the puck in the back of the net.

Lambos’ best season came in 2019-20 with the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL. In 57 games that year he would score 8 goals, collect 24 assists, spend 32 minutes in the penalty box, all while being a +20. With his 2021 season not getting off the ground on time, Lambos was loaned to Finland where he played in a combined 17 games between three teams and had 14 total points.

As with all prospects, it’s hard to judge them, especially when they are so young. Most of Carson Lambos’ time has been spent in the CSSHL with Canada’s U15 and U18 teams, but he has performed well there and his WHL performance isn’t bad at all. The Flames have a good stable of defenceman now, so if Lambos is a player they covet at #12 he has plenty of time to develop in the Calgary system. Draft expert opinions on Lambos vary as he’s ranked as high as 3rd best all the way down to the 30th best prospect in this upcoming draft. The Flames might not need a young, project defenceman at #12, but Carson Lambos is worth taking a look at.
