2021 NHL Entry Draft Prospect Preview

Aatu Raty (C)

Age: 18

Height: 6’1

Weight: 181 lbs

Hometown: Oulunsalo, FIN

Current Team: Karpat (SM-Liiga)

Complete Stats

When you watch Aatu Raty’s highlight reels you’ll notice two things: solid puck handling and a very quick release. The 18 year old product of Finland just finished a 2020-21 campaign with decent numbers, playing in 35 games for Liiga, registering three goals and three assists. While those numbers aren’t overly impressive, he has a history of putting up points starting with the Karpat U16 team in 2016-17 and continuing up to his stint with the Karpat U20’s in 2019-20.

His best season to date was in 2017-18 as a member of the Karpat U16 team. During that season he played in a mere 23 games, but he exploded for 35 goals and 30 assists in that short time. If you’re looking for something a little more recent, Raty had a 30 game, two goal, 19 assist effort with the Karpat U20’s in 2019-20.

There are plenty of highlights to watch if you want to look at Aatu Raty and see exactly what he has to offer. His stats and history are a little all over the place and that fits his current draft rankings as well. Some experts have him ranked as high as #3, while others have him as the 20th best prospect in the draft. That’s a little concerning when you’re looking at taking a player at #12 in the NHL Entry Draft, but at 18 years old there is still plenty of time for improvement and it’s not like the Flames would be counting on Aatu Raty to make an immediate impact anyway.
