NHL Standings

Well, the Flames were certainly in a giving mood in this one, falling 4-0 to the Jets in their final meeting of the 2021 season. With the win, not only did the Winnipeg Jets snap a seven game losing streak, but they also clinched a playoff birth with the win. What did the Flames accomplish in this one? Nothing. All they got was one game closer to being eliminated from playoff contention and to an offseason LOADED with questions.

The Flames really never stood a chance in this contest as the game was decided just a little over one minute into the game. Adam Lowry would score one of his two goals on the night and that’s all the Jets would need. Connor Hellebuyck would do his job at the other end of the ice, stopping all 32 shots that came his way to earn his 23rd career shut out.

At some point the Flames have to start someone else in goal besides Jacob Markstrom right? We get it Darryl Sutter, he’s your true #1, but he’s being ridden into the ground and when Rasmus Andersson hooked Andrew Copp on a breakaway, sending him flying into Markstrom, it looked like the freak accident was finally going to happen.

There comes a point in the season where you have to throw up the white flag and surrender, tonight’s effort and result should signal that time has come. Winnipeg only needed 19 SOG to get the job done and they looked in control for the entire contest. Don’t worry Flames fans, there’s only five games left in this miserable season. The end is near.
