The Morning After

Calgary Flames 2 - Toronto Maple Leafs 4

NHL Standings

There wasn’t a lot of good to come out of the Flames 4-2 loss Sunday night to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flames fell behind a little under a minute into this one as Morgan Rielly would score on Toronto’s first shot of the game and take a 1-0 lead. The Flames would bounce back and answer with two straight of their own, one off the stick of Joakim Nordstrom and the other from Andrew Mangiapane. Calgary’s lead would hold for a while, until Alex Galchenyuk would tie it late in the second period with his 2nd goal of the season. What was a promising first two periods for the Flames turned into a disastrous third period as John Tavares and Auston Matthews would each score in the final frame, taking a 4-2 win Sunday night.

Tidbits

-500: Mark Giordano would collect the primary assist on Joakim Nordstrom’s first period tally, his 10th assist and 16th point on the season. More importantly the assist was the 500th point of his career, making him the 9th player in Flames history to reach the 500 point mark.

-400: Another Flames player reaching a career milestone last night was Sam Bennett. The Calgary centre played in his 400th career NHL game last night and collected a point with an assist on Nordstrom’s first period goal.

-First Of The Season: Joakim Nordstrom has been in and out of the Flames lineup all season, but made the most of his start last night. He had three shots on goal last night and scored his first goal of the season, which was also his first as a member of the Flames.
