Calgary Flames @ Vancouver Canucks, 8:30 PM MT, Rogers Arena, Vancouver BC
TV: TVAS, SN, SNW - Radio: Sportsnet 960
Calgary Flames (16-18-3, 35 pts) - Vancouver Canucks (16-18-3, 35 pts)
Seriously, what else would you do with a Wednesday night as opposed to watching this dumpster fire of a game? Both teams have identical 16-18-3 records. Both teams “best” goalies are almost identical record wise. Both teams aren’t making the playoffs. If that doesn’t sell you on watching this game I don’t know what will. And with THAT sell job out of the way, this game may not even happen. Vancouver’s Adam Gaudette tested positive for Covid-19 and was pulled from practice on Tuesday afternoon. Calgary is still heading to Vancouver under the assumption the game will be on, so it’s a game of wait and see right now.
For argument sake, let’s say the game is on tonight, this is what you have waiting for you. Each team has played the same amount of games and are both terrible. The Canucks and Flames are 18th and 19th respectively in the league in GF (97 & 95). Vancouver has given up the 5th most goals in the league (119) and the Flames the 11th most (11). Both power play’s are middle of the pack. Both PK’s are outside the top 10. Each team is four points behind the Canadiens for the final spot in the North Division playoff race and Montreal still has 24 games to play as opposed to the 19 left for the Flames and ‘Nucks.
Basically, this game means nothing other than pride for each team and padding season stats. A win or loss isn’t going to further the cause for either of these teams, so if you have something, anything else you can do tonight, that may be a better option. Get ahead on meal prep. Get that load of laundry done. Fix those pesky roof shingles you’ve been neglecting for a year. Or watch this unmitigated disaster and become either frustrated or laughably indifferent.
Starting Goalies (E=Expected, C=Confirmed)
