Calgary Flames vs Winnipeg Jets, 8 PM MT, Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary AB
TV: ESPN+, SNW - Radio: Sportsnet 960
Calgary Flames (16-17-3, 35 pts) - Winnipeg Jets (21-12-2, 44 pts)
The Flames can put together a two game winning streak Monday night if they can take down the Winnipeg Jets in the final game of a three game series. The Flames were able to send a four game losing streak to the trash heap when they defeated the Jets 4-2 Saturday night behind a 22 save performance by David Rittich and a fired up Johnny Gaudreau.
Are things getting slightly contentious in the Flames locker room? Well, Darryl Sutter voiced his criticism of Gaudreau to the media and the player responded with a solid outing and kind of shrugged of his coach’s assessment of his play. This could be something, it could all be nothing. The only thing that really matters is that Gaudreau was dangerous all night and as the Flames best offensive weapon, that’s a good thing.
The win on Saturday pulled the Flames to within two points of the fourth place Canadiens, but the schedule isn’t going to do the Flames any favours. Calgary has already played five more games than Montreal so that Canadiens will end up with plenty of time to extend that lead, if the Flames can even catch them.
Calgary can do something tonight that they haven’t done all season and that is beat the Winnipeg Jets in back to back games. That task will be a tall order though as Winnipeg has only lost back to back games twice this season and the Flames have only beaten an opponent in two straight twice in 2021.
