NHL Standings

If you weren’t thrilled with seeing Ottawa on the schedule and what transpired, then you probably have pulled the sheets over your head and are waiting for Winnipeg to depart the city of Calgary. The Flames are returning home from a 1-3-0 road trip to face the second place Winnipeg Jets for three straight at the Dome.

It’s no secret that the Flames season is in a total free fall. They aren’t winning, they aren’t scoring and anything short of sweeping these three from the Jets is just about a death sentence to the Flames season. Calgary needs to win as many games the rest of the way out as they currently have losses and the Jets aren’t exactly an easy out.

Winnipeg is currently riding a two game winning streak and are only two points behind front running Toronto for the North Division lead. And that’s with only playing .500 hockey over their last 10 games. The Flames on the other hand have dropped three in a row and are 4-5-1 in their last 10. Which oddly seems “good” with how they have played recently.

Winnipeg presents a tough challenge in these three games as after they leave town the Flames get Vancouver for one and then have the Oilers and Maple Leafs (x2) waiting for them. With only 22 games left on the schedule going into any tough stretch and not playing well isn’t ideal. It’s even less ideal when you’re a Flames team that sits only four points out of fourth place, but it might as well be the 11 points they sit out of first. This isn’t going to end well and the Jets are just the beginning of what seems like an inevitable descent into another disappointing season for Calgary.
