Recap

Well, the Calgary Flames were first to score, and the only team to score in the first period ..

With 56 seconds left in the 1st Andrew Mangiapane puts the Flames on the board — Mangiapane in position for Valimaki’s pass, and stick deflection for the goal.

Extra credits go to Backlund who generated the play leading up to the Flames goal — Monahan had gone off early, and Backlund jumped on, keeping the puck in the Jets zone while waiting for his regular line mates.

And — that would be it for the Flames offensive rush.

The Jets would score 3 goals in the second period to leave the Flames trailing by two.

Mason Appleton would get a lucky bounce from a rebound past Markstrom to even out the scoring 1-1, with shots even at 12-12, 3 minutes into the 2nd.

Kyle Connor would take the puck away from Backlund and score on the break away. Lucic can’t catch a break, as he registers a minus 1 on this unfortunate play.

The third Jets goal would be Scheifele squeezing one past Markstrom with 50.7 seconds left in the 2nd.

Tkachuk — Lindholm — Dube line a minus 2 at the end of the 2nd.

Appleton would score an empty net goal with 1:22 left to seal the win for the Jets with a score of 4-1.

Calgary Flames give up 5 points to the Winnipeg Jets in this 3 game stretch between the two teams, who see each other again in less than a week, this time in Calgary.

Flame of the Game

Both teams went back to their starters in Jacob Markstrom for the Flames and Connor Hellebuyck for the Jets. Great saves at both ends.

Markstrom with a massive glove save on Ehlers — a give away by Nordstrom in the Flames end allowed Ehlers and Copp to get a couple of passes across before the shot.

The Flames get a 2-on-1 chance soon after in the 2nd as Monahan and Hanifin take off — Hellebuyck able to get a glove on Hanifin’s shot for the save.
