The Calgary Flames were first to score and able to hold the lead. Sam Bennett on the top line bangs one home 3 minutes into the game — off of a long shot from Rasmus Andersson, past Leafs’ goaltender Michael Hutchinson, who got the start in net with Frederik Andersen sidelined with an injury.

Jacob Markstrom out with an upper-body injury for the Flames. David Rittich getting the start in net for Calgary.

Rittich ready to play, makes an incredible paddle save on John Tavares who tries to net the rebound off Morgan Reilly’s shot that goes off the post. The big save keeps the Flames 1-0 lead alive to end the first.

Rittich having to make another big save as the Leafs get a break-away chance while short-handed. The Flames scoring on the other end after Rittich’s save. Calgary going up 2-0 half-way into the game with Matthew Tkachuk getting a PP goal – tipping the puck in off of Mark Giordano’s shot from the blue line.

Sean Monahan scores a goal after a 12 game dry spell — his last goal was against the Toronto Maple Leafs almost a month ago on January the 24th.

Monahan with an impressive backhand shot into the net — Tkachuk with the assist and heavy presence in front of the Leafs’ net the entire game.

The shots were even 32-32 with about 7 minutes left to play in the game.

The Calgary Flames scoring two PPG in a much needed win that came against the Toronto Maples Leafs.

Final Thoughts

Matthew Tkachuk was at 4 SOG with less than ten minutes of ice time near the end of the second period. Tkachuk ended the night with 1G, 1A and 6 shots, 6 hits with 18:46 TOI.

The Flames were able to kill off a 2-man disadvantage in the second period — Rittich making 26 saves to keep the Leafs off of the score board after 40 minutes of play.
