The Flames, outside of their goalie, were a dumpster fire last night.

The Morning After

Calgary Flames 1 - Vancouver Canucks 3

NHL Standings

The Flames never showed up last night and suffered an embarrassing defeat 3-1 at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks. Calgary had little to no jump from the get go, finding themselves out shot in every period and by a mile. Jacob Markstrom held up his end of the bargain last night, stopping 43 of the 46 shots that came his way in the loss. One thing is for sure after this game, the Flames can’t hang any of their losses on their new goaltender as he has been the best/most consistent player on the team so far.

Tidbits

-Take A Shot!: Every coach and fan will tell you that, but the Flames need to hear that. Last night they amassed only 19 total shots, never hitting double digits in a period (4,8 &7). That’s bad and the third time in four games where they have had less than 10 shots in the first period.

-Too Many Shots: After being pelted with 46 shots last night, Jacob Markstrom has now faced the second most shots in the league with 375 having come his way. The good news for the Flames is he has stopped 347 of the shots, which is also second best overall. So it’s a good thing Calgary has someone to bail them out.

-Stuck At 99: Matthew Tkachuk has been slightly invisible since scoring his 98th & 99th goals on February 2nd. Since then, he’s only had two assists and only 11 SOG and hasn’t been making an impact on the ice. Last night he was held pointless, had only three shots and didn’t really have an impact on the game at all.
