Recap

The Saturday evening matchup with the New York Rangers visiting the Calgary Flames at the Saddledome would start with high energy. Matthew Tkachuk would find himself in the penalty box — Flames’ Backlund getting a short-handed chance, the Rangers barely missing the net. The Flames would kill off the penalty in style — Tkachuk getting a chance out of the box with a pass from Lewis, and Hanifin waiting at the doorstep.

The Flames wasting no time on the power-play, with a beautiful sequence of passes — from Lindholm, to Tkachuk, to Sean Monahan for the goal — the players in sync with one another.

The Saddledome crowd relentless, booing every time Rangers’ Adam Fox would touch the puck. The Rangers were called for being offside, and a would-be Fox goal was nulled (maybe a turning point, maybe not). The first period would end with a 1-0 score in favour of the Flames.

Brad Richardson got his first goal as a member of the Calgary Flames, pouncing on a rebound off the boards, after a wicked Kylington slap shot from the point.

Two minutes later Johnny Gaudreau would sneak through the traffic around the Rangers crease, and tap in a loose puck to make it 3-0 for the Flames halfway into the game.

Rangers’ Ryan Reaves with an illegal check to the head of Flames’ Mangiapane would make things real physical — Rangers’ Tinordi and Flames’ Grudbranson going a full round in a tilt before the end of the second period.

Jacob Markstrom with a flash of the glove, saves the Flames during their penalty kill early on in the third period, before Gaudreau pots his second goal of the game making it 4-0.

Milan Lucic would take his shot, getting a deflection and goal. Then Matthew Tkachuk all skills makes it 6-0 Flames.

Markstrom with 22 saves in his 4th shutout of the season, in the Calgary Flames 6-0 win tonight. The Flames with a 2-0 series win over the Rangers.

Flame of the Game
