The Flames made the final cuts to their roster today, sending five players to Stockton as the NHL regular season approaches.
Justin Kirkland, Byron Froese, Walker Duehr, Connor Mackey and Adam Werner were all assigned to the Heat this afternoon. Duehr is the only player on that list that appeared to potentially have a shot at making the team, but that was not in cards.
Noticeably not on that list are Oliver Kylington and Glenn Gawdin. Both had very good preseason’s, especially Kylington. The Swedish defenceman had had a solid showing under Darryl Sutter and should be rewarded with regular ice time due to his play. Glenn Gawdin seemed a forgone conclusion as well, seeing he was playing well for most, if not all of the preseason.
With those five players sent to Stockton, this is what the Flames opening night roster will consist of, pending a late trade or injury:
Forwards
Matthew Tkachuk, Elias Lindholm, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Andrew Mangiapane, Tyler Pitlick, Mikael Backlund, Dillon Dube, Milan Lucic, Glenn Gawdin, Brett Ritchie, Brad Richardson, Trevor Lewis
Defence
Noah Hanifin, Oliver Kylington, Chris Tanev, Rasmus Andersson, Nikita Zadorov, Michael Stone, Erik Gudbranson, Juuso Valimaki
Goalies
Jacob Markstrom, Dan Vladar
*Blake Coleman is not listed as he is suspended for the Flames first regular season game*
The Flames first regular season game will be Saturday, October 16th @ the Edmonton Oilers.
