Calgary Flames vs Vancouver Canucks, 7 PM MT, Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary AB
TV: Live stream at CalgaryFlames.com - Radio: Sportsnet 960
Calgary Flames (0-2-1) - Vancouver Canucks (1-1-0)
The Flames and Canucks will lock horns tonight at the Saddledome for the second time this week, with the ‘Nucks taking the first contest 4-2.
The Flames trotted out a much more “NHL” lineup in their 4-3 SOL to the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday night and their best players were still their best players. The top two lines produced two of their three goals and the Gaudreau/Mangiapane/Backlund line led all Flames groupings with eight combined SOG. Dan Vladar went the distance for the Flames, stopping 18 of the 21 shots he faced, but you have to think Jacob Markstrom will be getting a look sooner than later. Noticeably absent from the Flames lineup on Wednesday was Sean Monahan. The Calgary has yet to dress for a preseason contest as well.
Speaking of shots, the Flames need to take more of them. Like a LOT more of them. In their three preseason games so far Calgary has a combined 65 SOG in three games. That’s an average of 21.6 per contest. Not enough.
On the Vancovuer side things are looking up (?) as contract negotiations are “progressing” with Elias Petterson and Quinn Hughes. Both of the Canucks stars are looking for new, lucrative deals and have yet to take the ice this preseason. Though a more regular season looking Canucks squad was able to handle an AHL ready Flames team the other night, I’m sure Vancouver is very much looking forward to Petterson and Hughes being back on the ice.
