Mavericks: Back To Back!

KC Picks Up Wins in 2-of-3 Against Utah

When we last checked in with the Flames ECHL affiliate, they were off to a rocky start on the split-season 2021 campaign. They managed to sneak out a pair of back-to-back wins in the last two of their three games this week, so perhaps things are turning around! Nothing official has been announced regarding the realigned Kelly Cup playoffs format, aside from the fact that seeding will be based off of the regular season win percentage. Either by points or win percentage, though, the Mavs are in 5th place coming out of this week. It still leaves them somewhat in the mix based off the mismatched number of games played/in-hand early on in this 72 game season.

GAME BY GAME:

Jan 15th: KC Mavericks 1 @ Utah Grizzlies 4 –LOSS

Jan 18th: KC Mavericks 5 @ Utah Grizzlies 4 –WIN (OT)

Jan 23rd: Kc Mavericks 5 @ Utah Grizzlies 2 –WIN

THE SQUAD:

In a small sample size, Giorgio Estephan has been leading the scoring charge so far and was on top of the team count for two weeks in a row. He still kind of is, but now shares a tie with Brodie Reid. Number 21 has jumped up from third to first, adding a whopping eight points in the last three games. This put both Reid and Estephan only a point back of the league scoring race, so we’ll definitely keep an eye on that.

In the blue paint, Andrew Shortridge has been placed on the Injured Reserve list, opening the door for the Mavs to sign Matt Greenfield to a contract on January 9th. The news comes at a tough time for Shortridge, who posted a 39 game shutout against Wichita the day before on January the 8th. We’ll keep an eye out for any detailed news on his injury specifics and recovery moving forward.

UP NEXT:

The Mavs have a tough one-off against the divison leading Allen Americans, then another one-game rematch with Utah. They’ll then kick into a three game series against the Tulsa Oilers, the last of which will start a season high seven game homestand for KC. It’ll present a good opportunity for some home cookin’ and a chance to keep pace in the playoff race. Check back with M&G to keep an eye on the Mavericks!
