Well, the search is over and the new bench boss of the Flames is none other than the man who took over the team after Bill Peters was let go last season.

The Calgary Flames made it official today, making Geoff Ward their new head coach, the 18th in franchise history.

In 42 games as the Flames interim coach Ward went 24-15-3 to finish out the Covid-19 shortened season, but he struggled in the playoffs. Under his tutalige the Flames went 5-5-0, but we're embarrassed as a team towards the end their series with Dallas. Ward made a few coaching blunders that showed that he was "green" to the post season spotlight, but in the end the Flames felt he had shown enough to be handed the head coaching gig.

Is it the right move? Time will tell, but it's going to be interesting to see if Calgary even reached out to anyone else to fill their coaching vacancy. Ward has a lot to prove as Calgary has a "talented" group that has done nothing but underperform in the playoffs.
