Stats Summary

Recap

Cam Talbot put on a show! With his 4th straight start, he’s looking to be the Calgary Flames starting goaltender during the playoffs. He looked comfortable in net from the get go, snuffing Kyle Connor early on — Connor with 6 SOG for the Winnipeg Jets.

Talbot getting some help from his teammates as well. Tkachuk with a spin move trying to make a save on Talbot’s give away from behind the net — somehow Talbot makes it back in time to get a piece of the puck.

Mangiapane stealing pucks off Jets’ players sticks in the defensive zone, Gaudreau quick to the races to make a stick stop on the puck, Giordano with 5 blocked shots — all coming up big to help their goaltender.

Milan Lucic got his hands bloody seconds after puck drop. That set the tone for the rest of the game, and nobody messed with Lucic after his tilt with Nathan Beaulieu.

It was an early start with Dillon Dube opening up the scoring for the Flames, on the second shot of the game just over 3 minutes in.

A team effort by the Calgary Flames to win Game 4 of the Round Robin against the Winnipeg Jets with points generated from all 4 lines.

Ward putting the Lucic-Bennett-Dube line from practice together has been paying off — Sam Bennett’s goal of the game beat the buzzer at the end of the first period to put the Flames up 2-0.

The Flames would make the Jets pay, as they score two empty-net goals — Hellebuyck pulled from net for the extra attacker with 4 minutes left to play, and the Jets down by 2.

Sean Monahan with the first empty net goal. Rasmus Andersson potting his second attempt into the Jets’ empty net — Milan Lucic getting an assist, giving him a point in all four games this series.

Final Thoughts

The Calgary Flames were buzzing tonight! Hellebuyck made some good saves — with a kick pad save on Andersson’s wrister from up the wing in the first period, to the save on Dube’s breakaway and rebound shot in the second period — that could’ve very well been a turning point in the game had the Jets been able to score on the return.

At the end of it all, Talbot with the flash of the glove on Ehlers, and snow angel save on Connor to end the third period is what sealed the deal — and “stamped” the Flames ticket to the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs .. in the hub city Edmonton.

Flame of the Game

Sam Bennett (F): Bennett with a goal with 0.7 left in the first period, made it 2-0 Flames, and there was no stopping them afterwards. Bennett was throwing some weight, with 8 hits on the night. He finished with a 2-pt game and a +3.
