Individual Grades
Mark: (B) I’m one of two people who gave Looch a grade higher than a “C.” Part of that reason was I liked his work ethic and how he has a good locker room presence for this team. He brought added toughness that the Flames desperately needed after losing Garnet Hathaway to the Capitals in the off season. Sure, the trade with Edmonton in the end was slightly lopsided numbers wise, as James Neal had the better season. However, Neal had more upside coming out of the trade so I won’t hold that against Lucic. He didn’t provide a ton of spark in the offensive end, providing his second straight 20 point season, both career lows. If you can put aside the high salary versus return, I think Lucic provided a solid service for the Flames and should help in the playoffs. Would I buy him out in the off season if it was financially feasible? Yup. No one wants to be on the hook for that $10.5 million the Flames have left to pay.
Flash: (C) Now my grade is not a reflection of my view of Lucic. His on ice performance points wise does not live up to his contract so I can’t in good conscious rate him higher, but I do love what he brings to the table. I’d much rather, and I do mean it seriously, have Lucic than James Neal and his effort he gave in his season here. Lucic loves the community, and the city. I was critical of the trade when it first happened but in about 25 games ol Rocket Loochard turned me into his corner LOOOOOOOCH
