Mark: (D) A “D” is probably too kind, but I’m just kind of over talking about Sam Bennett. He is what he is: a highly drafted player who hasn’t panned out and won’t. Plain and simple. His point totals most likely weren’t going to meet his “lofty” 27 from last year as he played in only 52 games and registered 12 points. He had 3 goals in his final 12 games and no points outside of those markers. Yes, he brings some grit to the team, but he’s relegated to the bottom six and when he’s been given a chance to play on the top two lines he hasn’t produced. Calgary has given the 24 year old many chances to prove he’s the guy they drafted with the #4 overall pick, but he has yet to live up to that draft status. It’s time to move on.

Flash: (C+) Sam Bennett has good advanced metrics. He typically has the puck more than the opposition at 5v5, he just can’t score. He could rack up more points with more ice time, but every time he’s given a decent chance he falters on the scorecard. Unfortunately that’s where the majority of the old hockey guard says it counts. There’s plenty of benefits to having Sam Bennett on your team, but I don’t see him lasting in Calgary. I do hope when he eventually does find his second team he goes off like Joonas Donskoi did in Colorado this year. The skill is there, he had 52.5% of the expected goals when he was on the ice (@ 5v5), there’s just no finish.
