The Flames goaltending news just keeps on keeping on with, instead an award, a signing. Calgary announced this afternoon that they have inked goaltender Artyom Zagidulin to a one year deal.
The contract is a one year, two way contract. This season Zagidulin played in 30 games with the Heat, his first in the AHL. He posted a record of 16-7-1 with a .898 Save% and a goals against of 3.07. Prior to coming to North America, Big Snag Zag had a standout season in the KHL with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in 2018-19. The then 23 year old appeared in 25 games and had a .924 Save% and a 1.96 GAA during the regular season and was outstanding in four playoff games as well.
The Flames only have one NHL goaltender under contract after this season in David Rittich. Cam Talbot’s one year deal expires after this season and with his solid play in 2019-20 it’s expected that he will seek a starting position and greener pastures somewhere else.
