Once the NBA squashed their 2019-20 season it was only a matter of time before other leagues followed suit (MLS and the NLL did today as well). While not having an known or confirmed player cases of COVID-19, the NHL decided to hit the pause button on the season immediately.

Gary Bettman and the NHL Board Of Governors held a conference call this afternoon and this was what was sent to the media shortly after:

While some leagues have completely shut it down and won't be playing this season, the NHL has left the door open for the possibility of returning to the ice at some time during this season. Will that happen? Who knows at this point. But with sports leagues following each other and taking an abundance of caution, get ready to not see the Flames or any other NHL team on the ice for the foreseeable future.
