The NBA has suspended it’s season. The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament will be played in empty arena’s. The Ivy League (NCAA) has cancelled all Spring sports. Schools are closing. Companies are telling their workers to stay home. COVID-19, or the Coronavirus, has gone from zero to 60 in the last 24 hours. What started as a flu like illness in China has spread world wide and has now been labeled a global pandemic.

With other sports leagues shutting down, the NHL has been silent until tonight. They released a brief statement through the league office in regards to what the league is currently doing:

So, basically wait and see. With the rate of cancellations and or suspensions of seasons, would it really be a shock if the NHL shut down tomorrow afternoon? Is it overkill or is it basic safety to keep fans and players alike healthy? We will hopefully have some more answers tomorrow from the league brass, but don’t be shocked if hockey get shelved for some time on Thursday afternoon.
