Recap

Action packed first minute, Tanner Pearson scores the first goal of the game 34 seconds in – Eriksson providing the screen on David Rittich. Then Matthew Tkachuk (!!) and J.T. Miller decide to drop the gloves on the following face-off.

At the 4:20 mark #10 Derek Ryan gets his 10th goal, making it 1-1 even in the first period.

Tkachuk doing it all, stuffing the puck past Markstrom’s pads. Gaudreau with the apple —saucer pass. 2-1 for the Flames with Tkachuk’s go ahead goal.

Unlucky bounce off the boards goes straight to Canuck Adam Gaudette, and he snipes it past Rittich tying the game 2-2 near the end of the first.

Dillon Dube had his eye on the Mark — fetches the puck that Ryan kept in and shot deep, circles and shoots one from the top of the circle, into the back of the Canucks net. Flames take the lead 3-2 early in the second period.

The Flames peppering Markstrom — Gaudreau with Jankowski on the 4-on-4 has one of the many scoring chances by the Flames, stopped by Markstrom. Rittich on the other end making an arm pit save on a chance by Brock Boeser. The second period ending 3-2, the Flames up.

The refs playing hooky. The Flames finally get a power play — couple good looks from Lindholm, Monahan with a rebound chance, but it’ll be a shot by Backlund tipped in by Lucic in the last second of the Flames PP to give them their first 2 goal lead in awhile. 4-2 Flames.

The Flames coming in hot in the third period — a great sequence from Lindholm to Gaudreau to Monahan, making it 5-2 Flames. Soon after it’s 6-2 Flames — Rieder with the empty netter for good measure.

Final Thoughts

It was a feisty game from the get go. Flames Travis Hamonic leaves the game halfway with a lower-body injury. Canucks Brock Boeser leaves the game with an upper-body injury.

The top line producing — Monahan with a goal, Gaudreau with 2 assists, and Lindholm with an assist.

Both goaltenders had their work cut out for them. Total shots in the game were 32 Flames – 27 Canucks. Rittich able to hold on for the W in the first of 4 road games. The Flames are away for a week — hoping this win turns into a streak as they head to California.
