With just over two weeks to go until the February 24 trade deadline, the Flames are sitting in a position of mediocrity. They’re sitting right on the playoff bubble in the Western Conference and are in serious danger of falling out of the picture if they can’t put a streak together. At the same time, they’re only a few points out of a divisional playoff spot and even contending for the division. It’s a tough position for Brad Treliving to be in, made even tougher by the recent injury to captain Mark Giordano.
Should the Flames be buyers, sellers, or do nothing at the deadline?
Calgary could go into the buyers market with players like Tyler Toffoli and Chris Krieder having been rumored.
At the same time if things go off the rails the next few weeks, expiring contracts like T.J. Brodie and Travis Hamonic could bring a decent return.
Doing nothing might be smart too, not lose any assets and give the current group a chance to do something.
