Mark Giordano Escapes Serious Injury, Out at Least a Week

The Flames captain will miss some time, but not as much as feared initially

The Calgary Flames organization and their fans held their collective breath as Mark Giordano went down in the corner during Tuesday’s game against San Jose. As he gingerly skated to the bench and went down the tunnel, the worst was being feared. With Giordano not returning to the game, rumors of a torn hamstring floating around, and no new info on Wednesday, things only got darker.

However it seems Giordano has avoided a serious hamstring injury that was rumored. Giordano will still miss at least a week (listed as week-to-week) as he has been put on IR to recover from the injury. No surgery will be required.

This is a major bullet dodged for the Flames. Even thought it will hurt not having him for a few games, it’s much better than the initial prospect of missing the rest of the season. This will also allow the Flames to refocus their deadline plans back on a forward, as losing Gio meant they might’ve had to look into the defense market.
