Recap

The fights were once again the highlights of round four of the Battle of Alberta, but this time, there was nothing good about the outcome of the game.

George Canyon hadn’t even made his way to his seat after singing the national anthem before the Flames found themselves down 2-0, barely over a minute into the game. A childhood connection came to the NHL, as Johnny Gaudreau tossed a pass that Buddy Robinson chipped past Mike Smith to cut the deficit to one. However, Connor McDavid would add a goal on the powerplay before the period was over. Robinson fought Jujhar Khaira to close out the period.

Things stayed bad, as McDavid ripped his second straight goal past Rittich. It would end Rittich’s game for the time being, but would not be the end of his night.

The Flames began to play a stronger game with Cam Talbot in net, as Matthew Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm scored to once again cut the deficit to one, at 4-3. However Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ goal just a minute after Lindholm’s would be the kill shot for the Flames. Caleb Jones sent a fluttering shot through Talbot, before a scrum in the Flames crease resulted in Cam Talbot and Mike Smith fighting at center ice.

This would of course be the end of both tenders nights, so Rittich re-entered the game, and Mikko Koskinen replaced Smith. Sam Gagner and Gaetan Haas (penalty shot) would get 2 more goals past Rittich to end the game.
