It really feels like Dillon Dube is on the cusp of a breakout season for the Flames. After a decent season in what was really his first full year with the Flames, Dube will be looking to take on a bigger role in 2020-21. He had a respectable 16 points in 45 games or roughly a 29 point pace which is decent for a rookie mainly getting bottom six minutes.

It was during the playoffs though that we saw a lot more flashes of the potential Dube possesses. He would have four goals and five points in ten games and contributed well alongside Sam Bennett and Milan Lucic. It was during the playoffs that Dube saw his role grow as he went from typically 10-13 minutes a night in the regular season to 14-17 minutes in the playoffs. Dube scored the first two goals of the series against the Stars in Game 1 and both were absolute beauties. He made an impact in the series, and that’s more than we can say for some Flames.

At this point there’s no question that Dube is a full-time NHLer and I expect him to get a more prominent role in 2020-21, perhaps with some time on the PP2. He probably won’t make his way into the top six for now with the roles looking pretty set, but if the Flames do make some major lineup tweaks, I wouldn’t hate seeing him alongside Matthew Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm on a new look top line, or even playing with Johnny Gaudreau who could suit his game well.

His future is very bright for the Flames and if he can take a step forward, he could provide the additional scoring depth needed to take the Flames from a playoff team to a potential contender.
