Calgary keeps on drafting for defensive purposes on Wednesday, adding a goalie with their fourth round pick. Daniil Chechelev is a good size at 6’2”, and has put up some very nice numbers in the MHL, Russia’s junior league. After putting up a 2.25 GAA and .914 sv% in 32 games for Russkie Vityazi Chekhov, he was passed over in the 2019 draft.

This past season, he lowered his goals against average and significantly raised his save percentage in more games played in the MHL. Across 49 games he put up a 2.20 GAA and .922 sv%. Those look like they could get even better than that, as he has started the 2020-21 MHL season with a 5-0 record along with a 1.33 GAA and .953 sv%. Look for him to get some KHL action this year with Vityazi Podolsk.
