2020 NHL Draft Coverage

The Flames originally had the 19th overall pick in tonight's NHL Draft, but traded down twice with the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals to end up at 24th overall, with two additional third round picks added to the arsenal.

With the 24th overall selection, the Flames took center Connor Zary from the Kamloops Blazers. The 19 year old forward has seen his game grow in three seasons in the WHL and the Flames were clearly impressed with his production. The 6’0, 180lb Saskatoon native’s offensive numbers have gotten better with each campaign, with 2019-20’s 86 point season (38G-48A) being the high water mark. What’s most impressive is that his 86 points came in only 58 games, a career low for Zary.

We will have much more coverage of the 2020 NHL Draft again tomorrow as the Flames have more picks on Day 2 after some shrewd trade work by Brad Treliving.
