These are can’t miss games this month

With the season beginning it’s home stretch, it’s time to look at the month ahead and five important upcoming games for the Calgary Flames. These games are in chronological order, not order of importance.

February 1, Edmonton Oilers at Calgary Flames

Yeah, we couldn’t start with anything else. If this game is anything like Wednesday night, it’s going to be a doozy. These two teams are currently separated by two points in the tight Pacific Division and could be tied depending on how the Oilers fare against the St. Louis Blues on Friday night.

These games have been dissected and talked about a lot lately, so we’ll just leave you with this. It’s so great to see the Battle of Alberta back and being meaningful again, because screw the California teams.

February 8, Calgary Flames at Vancouver Canucks

While everybody is talking about how much the Battle of Alberta has heated up, the Flames and Canucks still have a rivalry of their own. Since the last time these teams played the Canucks have vaulted to the top of the Pacific Division so this game could and should have a great deal of importance.

The teams have split the season series so far with both winning a game. This is the first matchup to take place in Vancouver with one more coming in late March.

February 17, Anaheim Ducks at Calgary Flames

Not every game has to be important from a standings perspective. The Flames will be wearing their gorgeous white Heritage Classic jerseys on home ice when the host the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks unfortunately won’t be wearing they’re equally gorgeous throwback jerseys but instead wearing their orange third jersey with the Might Duck logo.

It’s an afternoon affair on Family Day and with two teams wearing a lot of red and orange, it’ll be a real interesting sight. While the Flames and Ducks rivalry is on life support due to the latter’s descent to irrelevancy, there is still some animosity against the Ducks due to the suffering they made us endure during the mid to late 2010’s.

February 21, Boston Bruins at Calgary Flames

‘This is the first meeting between the teams this season and will be the first of two games in four games between them as they rematch in Boston on February 25th. There isn’t a lot of extra storylines going into this game, but the Dome always seems to have excitement when the Bruins and their fans are in town. They should also provide a good test for the Flames to see if they can stand up with a physical but also fast opponent.

February 29, Calgary Flames at Tampa Bay Lightning

Yes, it’s a game on the infamous leap day. The Flames are 2-2 all-time on this day that only comes around every four years.

It will also be a very intriguing game between two teams that finished 1-2 in the NHL Standings last year only to fizzle out in the playoffs. Both teams also had rather mediocre starts to 2019-20 but have turned it around now to contend for their respective divisions. The Lightning have scored 20 goals in the last three meetings between the clubs, so we’ll see if the Flames can defend a little better this time around.
