Calgary Flames @ Montreal Canadiens, 5:00 PM MT, Bell Centre, Montreal PQ
TV: SNW - Radio: SN960
Calgary Flames 25-17-5 (55 pts) - Montreal Canadiens 19-20-7 (45 Points)
Don’t look now but the Flames are one of the hottest teams in the NHL and have come all the way to take the lead in the Pacific Division. Calgary has been able to make this jump in the standings by winning their 5th straight game, a Saturday night 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. The Flames will now hit the road for three straight with the first being tonight in Montreal to take on the Canadiens. Calgary’s road record is 12-10-2 on the season and they’ve been very solid away from home over their last five. The Flames are 4-1-0 in their last five road games and have outscored the opposition 17-10 over that stretch.
Why do we bring this up? Well the Montreal Canadiens have struggled at home, going 8-11-4 at Bell Centre in 2019-20. The Habs are 2-7-1 in their last 10 games at home and they’ve really been in a funk overall lately. Montreal was able to sneak by Ottawa on Saturday 2-1 and that win was a rare accomplishment. The Canadiens had dropped eight in a row prior to their OT win and they were only able to score four or more goals twice during that eight game stretch of futility. They were also outscored 27-16 during those eight games.
Montreal hasn’t been an easy place for the Flames to play over the years, but they are 5-5-0 in their last 10 trips to see the Canadiens. The Flames have either lost or split the season series with Montreal, last winning a season series all the way back in 2012.
