For the second straight pre-season Dillon Dube really impressed both Flames management and the fanbase after he tallied four goals and two assists in seven games. He also put up some points in the Flames/Oilers prospect games before the pre-season started. I remember watching broadcasts from opponent’s preseason feeds, and having Oiler, Jet, and Canuck commentators all fawning over the play of Dube.

Dube ended up splittling his first professional season between the Flames and Stockton Heat. In Calgary he scored one goal and added four assists in 25 games, playing mainly a fourth line or bottom six role with the team. The Flames realised that it probably wasn’t best for his development to only see 7-10 minutes a night, so they sent him to Stockton where he’d get a big role in a rebuilding year for the Heat.

With Stockton, Dube put up 39 points in 37 games including scoring 15 goals. He had a stretch late in the season of 12 points in 6 games as Stockton made a late playoff push but missed out.

Heading into 2019-20, Dube projects to once again make the team out of training camp, but the onus will be on him to force his way into a regular top nine or even top six role depending on how other moves shake out. Dube has shown some flashes of his potential greatness, but now he has to translate that into an everyday NHL role. Once thing is very certain, he is a very exciting player to watch heading into training camp.
