It’s safe to say that Tyler Parsons transition to professional hockey hasn’t been exactly smooth. The 2nd round pick from 2016 has suffered injuries and has dealt with some mental health concerns over the last few years. Over his two professional seasons he has been limited to 27 AHL and 28 ECHL games.
After a rough start to the 2018-19 season, he finished the season strong by having a .923 SV% or better in five of his final six starts. He was also above .900 in 10 of his final 12 starts of the season. Parsons had a strong showing development camp as well and will be looking to make a bigger impact this year with Stockton.
Consistency is the absolute key for Parsons this year, as he needs to play regularly and well if he’ll ever make it in the NHL. His borderline freakish athleticism and smarts are his biggest strengths, and has all the tools to be a starting goalie one day if he can make it all work.
Parsons has shown the flashes at the pro level of the skills we saw in junior, now he just has to hopefully put it all together this year in Stockton. Patience is obviously still the key with goaltending prospects but with Artyom Zagidullin and Dustin Wolf coming up the pipeline, he has to solidify that he’s the organization’s #3 goalie this season.
