Happy Fourth of July to any of our American readers! With it being America’s birthday I thought it would be fun to put together of a list of the Top 10 American Flames of All-Time with a minimum of 82 games played for Calgary. Here we go!
10. Jordan Leopold
Leopold dressed for 233 regular season games with the Flames from 2002-03 to 2005-06, with a brief 19 game stint as a rental in 2008-09. He compiled 71 points during his time and was part of the team that made the run to the final in 2004.
9. Neil Sheehy
Dressed in 222 regular season games for Calgary from 1983-84 to 1987-88. Also played in 39 games during the 1991-92 season. He racked up a whopping 725 PIM during his time with the Flames, well over 3 PIM per game on average.
8. Paul Ranheim
The 2nd Round pick in 1984 was in the organization from 1988-89 to 1993-94, dressing for 354 games, scoring 94 goals and collecting 194 total points.
7. Phil Housley
Two separate stints fro, 1994-95 to 1995-96 and 1998-99 to 2000-01 allowed Housley to dress for 328 games for Calgary. He had 238 points during his time with the Flames.
6. Matthew Tkachuk
I’m sure he’ll keep making his way up the list as he continues his career. He’s put up 174 points in 224 games so far in his career and looks poised to only get better. Now get him signed!
5. Joel Otto
Otto dressed for 730 games for Calgary, the most for an American born player. He played from 1984-85 to 1994-95, winning a ring along the way. He had 428 points with the Flames to go along with a whopping 1642 PIM.
4. Craig Conroy
The current Flames assistant GM dressed for 507 games with the team, first being acquired in 2000-01 in a trade that Jarome Iginla didn’t like. Conroy left the Flames after the 2003-04 run, but returned via trade in 2006-07 and finished his career in 2010-11. Conroy had 308 points in Calgary.
3. Joe Mullen
Mullen was acquired by the Flames from St.Louis in 1985-86 and stuck with the team through their Stanley Cup Championship in 1988-89. He dressed for 345 regular season games and put up 388 points during that time. His 190 goals are the most ever scored by an American in a Flames uniform.
2. Johnny Gaudreau
Not much to say about Johnny Hockey. He’s a superstar and he’s ours. Had the best year of his career in 2018-19 with 99 points to give him a total of 387 points in his career.
1. Gary Suter
Suter played 617 games for the Flames from 1985-86 to 1993-94 and was a huge part of that core that was dominant. He had 564 points for the Flames, winning a Stanley Cup as well as the Calder Trophy during his rookie year.
