Big Save Dave is back! The Flames and their goaltender avoided arbitration today by agreeing to a two year contract worth $5.5 million dollars according to reports.

This gives the Flames a goaltending tandem of Rittich and the recently signed Cam Talbot heading into 2019-20.

Rittich was a stud for the Flames last season up to the point where he got hurt. When he was given the chance to run the starting gig, Rittich showed Calgary he was worth the money. He finished the season with a 27-9-5 record, a .911 Save % and a 2.61 GAA. He also finished 16th in the league in wins, tied with Tuukka Rask, Ben Bishop and Darcey Kuemper.

All reports out of Calgary suggest that Talbot and Rittich will be a 1A/1B type scenario, but it would seem like a disservice to Rittich to not give him the chance to be the Flames true #1 goalie next season based on his performance in 2018-19.
