Flames acquire Milan Lucic

The Flames shed half a million in cap space in the deal

The Calgary Flames made their first trade of the 2019 offseason, acquiring left wing Milan Lucic from the Edmonton Oilers, in exchange for James Neal.

Lucic has 4 years remaining of his 7-year, 42 million dollar deal signed with the Oilers on July 1st 2016. The Oilers will retain 750K per year, leaving the annual cap hit at 5.25 million, 500K less than the 5.75 Neal will earn for the next 4 seasons. The Flames also receive a conditional 3rd round pick.

Lucic, 31, had 6 goals and 20 points, as well as 91 PIM in 79 games with the Oilers this past season. In his first and only season as a Flame, James Neal recorded 7 goals and 19 points in 63 games.
