NHL Standings

The playoff bound Calgary Flames return home to the Saddledome Tuesday night to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Flames are in the final stretch of the season and not having to worry about clinching a playoff spot is huge for the team. Yes, there’s still first place to battle for, but being in already is a massive boost for Calgary as the season winds down.

The Blue Jackets come into this contest having won three of their last five and they own the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, just three points ahead of the Montreal Canadiens. The Blue Jackets schedule does them no favors either as they have Calgary, the Islanders, Nashville, Boston and a rather large game on March 28th against Montreal that could have major playoff implications riding on it. A few wins and some out of town help could propel the Jackets past the 8th spot and give them some breathing room as they are only one point behind the Carolina Hurricanes who own the 7th spot in the East.

These two last met on December 4th with the Flames winning 9-6 with a comeback for the ages. The Flames found themselves down 4-1 and came roaring back with five straight goals to earn the victory. Calgary is an even 14-14-0 at home over the years against Columbus, but they’ve dropped eight straight at the Dome when the BLue Jackets have come to town.
