Calgary Flames vs NY Rangers, 7 PM MT, Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary AB
TV: ESPN+, SNW - Radio: Sportsnet 960
Calgary Flames 43-20-7 (93 pts) - NY Rangers 28-29-13 (69 pts)
The Flames will close out what has been a successful home stand with a visit from the NY Rangers Friday night. Calgary has clearly enjoyed the home cooking as their offence has come out a prolonged slump while they’ve been home. In two games so far Calgary has hung 15 goals on the Vegas Golden Knights and the NJ Devils after scoring only 14 goals in their previous eight contests. The Flames have the weakest remaining schedule of any playoff team in the NHL and they need to use that to their advantage. Calgary is currently one point behind the San Jose Sharks in the West and the Pacific with a VERY large game looming on March 31st.
The Rangers are limping to the finish line in a season that clearly got away from them early on. NY lost 8 of their first 11 contests and it’s been an uphill battle ever since. The Rangers have only been able to string together a winning streak of more than three games one time this season and they also have only won more than two in a row twice. One of the NHL’s Original Six is currently mired in a skid where they’ve lost eight of nine and five of those have been in heart breaking fashion. Of those nine defeats, three have been in overtime and two by way of the shoot out. NY’s season is done as they sit in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, 43 points behind the first place Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Flames and Rangers last met on October 21st at MSG with the Flames winning 4-1. NY is 17-32-10 at the Saddledome over the years, but they have won three times in their last five trips to Calgary.
