Calgary Flames 3 – Columbus Blue Jackets 0

NHL Standings

The Flames needed to build on their 6-5 win in Nashville and they did just that on Saturday night. Calgary came into Columbus looking for only their second two game winning streak of the season and accomplished that feat behind their brick wall named David Rittich. Rittich didn’t have to face a ton of tough shots, but he did have to face a ton of shots. Columbus put 43 shots on net last night, but Rittich turned them all aside getting the Flames a 3-0 win. Calgary got goals from Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk on the night and looked like a team heading in the right direction.

Tidbits

-Record Rittich: Last night David Rittich saw 43 shots and stopped all of them for his second shut out of the season. The 43 shots he stopped were the most by the Flames goaltender with Dan Bouchard’s 46 being the Flames record.

-Snapped: Sean Monahan scored the Flames opening goal on the night, his third of the season. The marker was the first time Monahan scored in 13 games dating back to October 5th.

-PIM City: Milan Lucic earned another four penalty minutes last night for a punch he threw at Blue Jackets Kole Sherwood. Sherwood took a whack at David Rittich after a save and Looch came flying in and straight punched Sherwood in the face. Lucic has fallen out of the top spot in the league for visits to the bin (30 PIM), but his punch could be looked at by the league.
