Recap

The Flames keeping on their latest brand of staying focused on the game, pull off a huge and much needed win for this team that has had a black cloud following them. With Geoff Ward as the interim replacement bench boss, alongside him Craig Conroy and Martin Gelinas getting a front row seat.

The Flames top line lack lustre with some bad turnovers, Rittich making some huge saves with a couple of helpers from the post.

TJ Brodie opens up the scoring by potting one five hole on Ullmark, that may or may not have gone off of Lindholm. Brodie said it best in his 1st intermission interview “might’ve been tipped in .. but it doesn’t matter”. All the Flames care about is getting goals, and winning games.

It was another SH give-away that allowed the Sabres to tie it up 1 a piece. Rittich keeping it that way to go into the 3rd with another game winning save on Eichel’s take-away off of the bench as he intercepts Hanafin.

The Flames top line, Stone, and Kylington are on the ice for the Sabres 2nd goal by Olofsson early in the 3rd. The 3M line back together again are able to tie it up with a goal by Flames top scorer Tkachuk. A gruelling shift that pays off dividends by 3M. Shots 21-21 at this point in the game.

The Sabres peppering shots on goal in the second half of the 3rd period, but Rittich holding steadfast. The game going into extra time and again Tkachuk shining in the entry zone and with his hustle an eventual goal by his line mate Lindholm for the win. Sealing that 2 points.

Final Thoughts

The Flames are getting that fresh start they’ve been waiting for. They fought hard in a well paced game, with end to end play. With a good goaltender, and some post luck they were able to get away with bad turnovers in the game and still win one.

Flame Of The Game

David Rittich (G) getting his 5th straight start, playing all 4 road games. Well deserved as he’s been the best Flames player for some time. Making some clutch saves on a lethal Sabres offense. Keeping the team in the game, making more saves (16) in the 3rd than the first and second periods, and taking it into overtime for the Calgary Flames win. Tkachuk is a close second for Flame of the game.
