Not really sure what to say about this game or this team. The St. Louis Blues looked like a Stanley Cup Champion last night and the Flames looked like a team that has no interest in mentioning the words “Stanley” and “Cup.” Unless it’s something like this “Hey, Stanley, do you have an extra cup?”

St. Louis would hand the Flames their third shut out in their last four games by way of a 5-0 beat down. Calgary looked like they had some energy early on, but that quickly disappeared. St. Louis was flying all night long and looked like a team that is a well oiled machine and it showed. I know you’ll be shocked to know this was the 9th straight game where the opposition scored first. Not that it’s too hard to figure out since THE FLAMES DIDN’T SCORE A DAMN GOAL.

Honestly, there isn’t much more to say. St. Louis is a great hockey team and the Flames are barely a hockey team.

Final Thoughts

Look, we all understand the Flames are a little undermanned on the blue line. Losing Andrew Mangiapane to what will probably end up being a concussion didn’t help. David Rittich (hard to fault him for much tonight) misplayed a puck that led to a goal. None of those things are going to help you when you’re playing a team as good as St. Louis.

What was EXTREMELY frustrating tonight was the fact that Jordan Binnington looked like he wanted to hand the Flames a ton of goals tonight. Sure, he stopped all 40 Flames shots, but he fought the puck all night long. Not many of his saves were crisp, he gave up lots of rebounds and lost the puck a bunch, but Calgary couldn’t find a way to beat him (looking at you Sean Monahan).

The Flames have now dropped six in a row and only scored five times in those six games. When the line of Milan Lucic/Derek Ryan/Dillon Dube was once again your best line it’s time to reassess things. Apparently there was a closed door meeting between the players after the game last night. Here’s a hot take: no one cares. Forget the meetings, score some goals. You’re welcome.
