Calgary Flames 3-3-1 (7 pts) – Detroit Red Wings 3-3-0 (6 pts)

NHL Standings

The Flames will try to do something they haven’t done all season Thursday night and that’s to try and string together two straight victories. The Flames come into this contest having just snapped a two game losing skid with a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night. That victory might have been the first game where the Flames looked like a team that was playing together. They had a solid offensive output, their defense played well, David Rittich was outstanding, the PK did it’s job and they got secondary scoring from their second and third lines. Maybe a little home cooking will do the Flames some good as they went 1-2 on their recent three game road trip.

The Red Wings come into this contest on a two game losing skid that has seen them be outscored 10-3 in back to back losses to Toronto and Vancouver. Prior to that small hiccup the Red Wings were cruising along, winning three of their first four games. Led by a solid young core of Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi and Dylan Larkin things are looking up for the folks in Detroit. That threesome has combined for 11 goals and 23 points in only six games. Detroit hasn’t made the playoffs since 2016-17 and this young group of players has a chance to change that this season.

Now for reality: Detroit is BAD in Calgary. They have lost six out the last eight times they have visited the Saddledome and have given up 12 goals in their last two visits. Calgary’s overall record at the Dome against the Wings is 50-33-6.
