The story leaked out yesterday and the Calgary Flames made it official today that they’ll be retiring Jarome Iginla’s #12 on March 2 vs the Minnesota Wild. After Iginla retired last summer, it was simply a matter of time before the Flames all-time leading scorer would see his number raised to the rafters of the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Iginla dressed in 1219 games for Calgary, scoring 525 goals and 570 assists. He’s the Flames all-time leader in points, goals, games played, powerplay goals, even-strength goals, and shots to name a few.
He’s undoubtedly the greatest player to ever wear the Flaming C, and to see his #12 retired will be a fantastic moment for Iginla, the franchise, and the fans.
I suppose all that’s left for Iginla now is his call to the Hockey Hall of Fame which could happen as soon as 2020.
Congrats Iggy!
