Calgary Flames vs Arizona Coyotes, 7:30 PM MT, Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary AB
TV: SN1
Radio: Sportsnet 960
Calgary Flames 29-13-4 (62) - Arizona Coyotes 20-21-3 (43)
The Flames can tie a season high five game winning streak with a win over the Arizona Coyotes Sunday night. Calgary got to four straight by dispatching the Florida Panthers Friday night by the score of 4-3 and a little 3rd period magic. Calgary pumped in two goals in the third to up their league leading total to 69, which was enough to put the Panthers away. Tonight’s contest is the Flames 3rd home game in a row and part of a five game home stand for the good guys. Calgary is 14-4-4 at the Saddledome this season and they are 3-1-1 in their last five on home ice.
The Coyotes have a nice little winning streak of their own going, having won three in a row as part of their current trek through Western Canada. Arizona is a much better team on the road this seaon than they are at Gila River Arena. The ‘Yotes are 12-9-1 away from their home barn as opposed to their 8-12-2 record in Glendale. Arizona is in 13th place in the Western Conference and are a far distant 6th in the Wild Card standings. Part of the reason for Arizona’s struggles this season is they can’t score. The Coyotes are 29th in the league in scoring with only 113 goals and it’s hard to put pucks in the net when you’re 21st in the league in Shots Per Game with 30.5.
This the second of four meetings between the Flames and Coyotes with Calgary winning the first matchup 6-1 back on November 25th. Mike Smith was in net for that contest and will be back between the pipes again tonight. The Flames are 3-2-0 in their last five against Arizona and Smith is 2-1-0 against his former team since joining the Flames.
