The Flames played sloppy hockey, were out-shot 35-16, yet got some huge saves from David Rittich and won their 28th game of the season, a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Johnny Gaudreau had his goal scoring streak snapped, but his two assists put him 3rd in the NHL in scoring with 66 points. Calgary won their third straight and are in first place in the Western Conference, two points ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights. Tidbits

-Gio Passes Nieuwendyk: Mark Giordano collected three helpers last night giving him 303 for his career, passing Joe Nieuwendyk and putting him in 5th place all time with the Flames in assists.

-Another 20: Per the NHL, Matthew Tkachuk’s 20th goal of the season is the 2nd time in Flames history where Calgary has had four players score 20 goals through 45 games.

-Top Line Duel: The Av’s top line took 21 of the Avs 35 shots last night and scored twice and collected one assist. Calgary’s top line had two of the Flames 16 SOG, but scored one time and had two assists on the night.
