Flames Top 25 Under 25: #5- Elias Lindholm

New, comment

It took a lot to get Lindholm to Calgary, but he’s now part of the Flames core for a good amount of time.

#5 - Elias Lindholm

Position: C

Age: 23

Team: Calgary Flames (NHL)

Drafted: 2013, Round 1, Pick 5 (Carolina Hurricanes)

Last Year: N/A

Voting Points: 2937

When you’re the big off season acquisition there will be big expectations and that’s just what awaits Elias Lindholm in Calgary. The Flames traded Dougie Hamilton, Micheal Ferland and Adam Fox to the Hurricanes on draft day for Lindholm and Noah Hanifin with hopes that Lindholm could fill some of the offensive woes that plagued the Flames last season.

Lindholm was the 5th overall pick by Carolina in 2013 and has been nothing if not consistent in his 4 season in the NHL. In 374 career games Elias Lindholm has collected 188 points (64G 124A) with his best season being an 72 game, 45 point season back in 2016-17.

The hope is that the 23 year old Swed can potentially slot in the Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan on the Flames top line and provide a more consistent offensive effort in 2018-19. Calgary gave a up a good amount in the trade, but clearly the Flames (and you by voting him here) believe Lindholm can make a difference not only this season, but in the future. Shortly after acquiring him both parties came to terms on a 6 year, $29.1 million dollar contract locking him up, along with the rest of the Flames “core,” for the long haul.
